OGPS Career Services offers a curated selection of resources and articles, uniquely designed to support Tulane's graduate students and postdoctoral fellows throughout their career preparation process. Additionally, our OGPS Career Services team hosts bi-weekly workshops and one-on-one career coaching appointments throughout each academic semester.

Who's Eligible for OGPS Services? 

Graduate students in the School of Liberal Arts (Master's and PhD), School of Science and Engineering (Master's and PhD), Public Health and Tropical Medicine (PhD only), Freeman Business School (PhD only), and School of Medicine (Biomedical Sciences only, PhD and Master's). 

All Postdoctoral Fellows at Tulane University. 

We highly recommend that each master’s student schedule their first meeting with our career counseling team at least six months prior to graduation, and PhD students meet with us before completing their qualifying exams. 

 

 

Career Services Professional Development Workshops Calendar for Fall 2026 

The office organizes workshops and seminars on various topics essential for professional growth. These workshops cover areas such as job search strategies, effective networking, personal branding, and leveraging social media platforms for career advancement. Participants gain practical skills and knowledge to enhance their career prospects. All zoom links for the workshops are in our weekly OGPS Newsletter that goes out every Tuesday morning and also through emails. Workshops for PhD students and Postdocs are hosted by Ryan Stivers, and all workshops for master's students are hosted by Myan Wright. The schedule is tentative and any changes will be communicated.

 

Academic CV Writing for PhDs and Postdoctoral Fellows

Description: Learn how to design a clear, concise, and compelling academic CV tailored for faculty and research positions. This session will cover formatting tips, content strategy, and how to highlight academic accomplishments effectively. 

 

Career Clarity for Master’s Students

Description: This workshop helps master’s students explore career pathways connected to their skills, interests, and graduate training. Students will develop a clearer understanding of their professional goals and create an intentional plan for career exploration and growth.   

 

Academic Job Searching and Preparation for Postdocs and PhDs

Description: Discover tools and strategies for navigating the academic job market. This session will cover timelines, how to identify and evaluate job postings, key application materials, and how to prepare for academic interviews. 

 

Translating Your Degree Into Value for Master's Students

Description: This workshop focuses on helping students translate research, coursework, internships, and assistantships into strong professional materials and marketable skills. Students will learn strategies for strengthening resumes and CVs, tailoring applications, and communicating their experience effectively to employers.

Description: This workshop introduces students to career opportunities beyond traditional academic pathways, including industry, nonprofit, healthcare, government, consulting, and higher education administration. Students will gain broader insight into how graduate-level skills can transfer across professional fields and industries. 

 

Internships & Career Preparation for Master's Students

Date: Wednesday, October 7, 2026

Description: This workshop helps students identify internships, research opportunities, fellowships, and other experiences that strengthen career readiness during graduate school. Students will learn strategies for gaining meaningful experience, building professional connections, and aligning opportunities with long-term career goals. 

 

Networking and Building Professional Relationships (Academic/Non-Academic) for PhD Students and Postdocs

Description: This workshop addresses the challenges of burnout, overwhelm, and maintaining balance while pursuing graduate education and career goals. Smart Job Searching in the Age of AI: Hiring Trends, Job Offers & Salary Conversations for Master's Students

Description: This workshop helps students navigate modern hiring processes, including applicant tracking systems, AI in recruitment, and current job market trends. Students will also learn strategies for evaluating job offers, understanding compensation and benefits, and approaching salary conversations with greater confidence.   

 

Graduate School…Again? Making a Strategic Decision About Your Next Degree for Master's Students

Negotiating Compensation and Benefits for PhD Students and Postdocs

Description: In this workshop, participants will develop the skills necessary to negotiate a fair salary and benefits package. Our roadmap is designed to guide you through essential steps for career success, aligning with the NACE Core Competencies for Career Readiness.
