Graduate Financial Aid & Funding

Tulane's graduate programs award their own scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships. Contact the graduate programs for information on the availability of funds and how to apply. Most doctoral students receive a fellowship or assistantship consisting of a stipend plus a tuition waiver. Stipends are competitive and the cost of living in New Orleans is reasonable. 

Tulane's Financial Aid Office calculates a student's eligibility for any additional federal aid to supplement awards made by the graduate programs. Please note that federal aid decisions for students seeking law degrees are made at the Law Financial Aid Office and those for School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine students are made at their respective links. Tuition rates at Tulane for graduate study vary by degree program. Consult with Accounts Receivable or the schools for details. 

Funding

Tulane's Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (OGPS), in cooperating with the Graduate Studies Student Association (GSSA), awards a limited number of travel grants for graduate students to present at a professional conference. 

  • OGPS awards a limited number of travel grants of up to $500 each for students to present a paper or poster at a conference. All Tulane graduate students pursuing a PhD, MA, MS, or MFA are eligible to apply. Application guidelines and the application form are available here. 

  • Requests for funds must be received before travel is initiated. Funds may be requested before receiving a formal acceptance to present, in which case a conditional award is made. Eligible travel costs include airfare, conference registration, and transportation (parking, taxi, rental car, train pass etc.). Travel funds are also available through some Dean's Offices. 

  • Students are eligible for awards up to $500 per academic year. The following grant options are available. 

    • $500 once per year or $250 twice per year for presenting at a conference. 

    • $200 once per year for attending a conference.  You can use one $200 attending award and one $250 presenting award in a year. 

    • Funds will be proportionally distributed each semester among all applicants; award amounts may very each semester; the amount listed above is the maximum amount that may be received, but does not guarantee that funding amount. 

  • OGPS has compiled a list of external funding sources for graduate study, research, and postdoctoral experiences.
